We strive to make each moment with horses “a blessing, a life lesson, and a memory”. If you would like to ensure your horse-moments are cherished memories or you would like to further your equestrian education, consider yourself invited to participate in any of our educational programs. More information about Dressage and Eventing is available for easy reference.

Our programs could not be such a success without our herd of Dancing Horses and Ponies! Please take a moment to learn about our DHF Herd.

DHF Dancing Horses

Grandioso DHF

Please welcome our newest Dancing Horse, Grandioso DHF or “Grand” for short. He is 5 years old and 16 hands tall with the most gentle disposition. Grand takes care of our older, taller students. He has ridden with Mary Wanless (who loved him!) and spends his days allowing DHF Riding School students to learn and improve their skills. Give him a “Hello” as you pass by—he is always ready to welcome visitors.

Teddy

Teddy is trained as a Hunter-Jumper and has successfully competed Novice level in Eventing. Teddy used to belong to one of our boarders and he enjoyed teaching so much, that we bought him for our students. Teddy is a patient, steady mount for students of all ages and abilities.

Travis

Another “newbie” to DHF Riding School is Travis. A quick glance in the field, and you could mistake him for Snickers! He too is paint-colored and beautiful…or handsome. Travis belonged to a DHF Riding School Student and now he is in our lesson program—absolutely loving teaching our students the DHF ways. Travis' size is perfect for children or adults—not too small, not too big. His manners are impeccable and his temperament exemplary. As always, DHF prides itself on the perfect selection of horses and ponies for our students—Travis is no exception. Be sure to make him feel welcome!

Waldo

Waldo is a stout little registered Morab (Morgan-Arabian cross) who stands 15.1 hands tall. He is in his 20s, knows how to drive a carriage and absolutely loves teaching new riders how to ride! Waldo lives in the DHF aisle across from Jen’s tack room. Where’s Waldo? See if you can find him!

We Love Ponies!

A pony is a small horse measuring under 14.2 hands or 58 inches. A “hand” is 4 inches and is considered the standard measurement for horses. Why 4 inches, you may ask. This measurement came about because that was considered the average width of a grown man’s hand, and using a measurement standard that everyone had handy was a logical solution. So, if you count the number of man’s hand widths a horse is from the ground to the wither (base of the neck), you will know how tall they are. A horse is over 14.2 hands and can even be taller! Jen once broke a horse that was 18 hands tall and fortunately very sweet and quiet!

Ponies have even been used by the Vikings to fight wars (Fjord). Some ponies sometimes eat seaweed instead of grass (Shetland)! They also jump, pull carriages and are extremely intelligent. Most ponies like to have jobs - pulling sleighs (Haflinger), driving, farming or carrying packs (Highland).

In the Wild West, ponies carried the mail. It was called the Pony Express and it ran day and night. Each pony had to ride 10-15 miles before a new pony would take his place and the trail was about 2000 miles. Those ponies had to be healthy!

DHF Dancing Ponies

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has completed her Training and is fully prepared for her position as a DHF Lesson Pony! Since her arrival, Cinnamon has consistently proven her intelligence and willingness to please. Now, she not only fully understands and eagerly responds to the riders’ aids but more importantly she has demonstrated that she is completely trustworthy—a #1 required character trait of a DHF Dancing Horse! At almost 5 years old, Cinnamon is ready to show everyone how unbelievably adorable and amazing this 14 hand, silver tailed Mustang pony truly is. Congratulations Cinnamon!
