The Dancing Horse Farm Riding School offers Beginning through advanced levels of instruction in Dressage, Theory, and Eventing. The mission is to provide quality education to all riders, regardless of their current riding competency.

Our dedication to provide unique educational opportunities is supported by the United States Dressage Federation and its local area chapters. We maintain a full calendar of programs, clinics and seminars covering a multitude of horse-related topics to enhance every horse owner’s education.

Our clinicians are carefully selected for their expertise, effectiveness and unique ability to address every stage of learning. They are professionals who can help each horse and rider achieve their personal goals. Each believes in a systematic training method that establishes rider competence and improves upon existing skills. Essentially, whether participating or auditing, beginner or successful competitor, everyone is set up for success!

To attend a DHF Riding School clinic, please complete an Auditor or Participant Form. Clinic costs vary depending on clinician. Auditing Cost is $25 per day. Pre-registration is recommended. For further questions about the program or to sign up, please contact Jennifer Truett at 937.532.3108 or e-mail.

Dorothy Crowell

Dorothy Crowell came to DHF for the first time in May 2010. We fell in love with her! Dubbed the “hometown hero” of the tri-state are (Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana), she is a local favorite as well as a world renown competitor.

Dorothy Crowell is a Level IV USEA Certified Instructor with an impressive career:

  • Member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Teams
  • Winner of the Silver Medal at the World Championships at the Hague in 1994
  • Winner of the first USET Four Star Championship at Rolex

For the past few years Crowell has focused on being a wife, mom, and teacher, with students at every level. She trains and teaches out of her Frankfort home at Sycamore Hill Farm. Recently, Crowell competed in her first CCI**** since her daughter was born, riding a Kentucky-bred Thoroughbred named Radio Flyer. The pair finished a respectable fifteenth at the Pau CCI**** in France and at this year’s Rolex, Dorothy’s first time back in 10 years, the pair finished 22 of 43 starters. Crowell currently competes three horses at the upper levels. One is a warmblood cross that is great on the flat (the dressage phase); the other two are Thoroughbreds. “If you asked me which one I would rather ride on cross-country, it would be the Thoroughbred hands down every time,” said Crowell, tapping into her family’s Thoroughbred roots. “An old-fashioned event rider is always going to feel more comfortable on a Thoroughbred. I am a card-carrying member of the club.” (Source: Jeannie Blancq Putney’s “Local Talent” article.

Alexsandra Howard

Ms. Howard is a United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) “S” level judge, a United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Learner (“L”) Judge Program faculty member, and 3-time United States Equestrian Team (USET) member (Olympic and World Championship teams, ’78, ’80, ’82). Ms. Howard regularly conducts USDF “L” judge learning programs in addition to regular judging duties. Since 1990, Ms. Howard has been involved in a very rewarding collaboration with author and international dressage clinician, Mary Wanless. Ms. Wanless and Ms. Howard have worked together to develop an advanced understanding of the biomechanics of the effective dressage rider’s seat. Ms. Howard conducts clinics around the United States incorporating this revolutionary biomechanical approach with traditional dressage training while teaching riders of all levels.

Ms. Howard’s clinics reveal how modern-day biomechanics research enables riders to improve communication with their horses in the centuries-old equestrian art of dressage. Click here for more information about Sandy.

Mary Wanless

Mary has spent the past 15+ years working with DHF coaches Sandy Howard, Joan Bolton and #2 US rider on the FEI World Dressage Rankings, Heather Blitz.

Mary Wanless’ ‘Ride With Your Mind’ approach is a tremendous advance in teaching and learning. It shows any rider how to organize her mind and body in the same way as the riders we call ‘talented’. This enables each person to learn the same feels and to achieve the same results. The techniques used are very streamlined. By increasing the rider’s body awareness and using images which help her understand both what to do and how to do it, incredible improvements can be obtained in a very short time, defying traditional expectations.

Clinics are designed to include riders at all levels, from novices to upper level competitors. Visit her Web site to learn more about her biomechanics-based approach to teaching.
